Lower Energy Prices in New York

By Texas Electricity

It was sometime around the mid nineties the New York state government decided to restructure the electric industry. The idea behind the deregulation was to help both business and customers save money due to the dwindling economy and rising costs of electricity. There are so many monopolies who had their hands in the electric industry, and they could raise the cost of power whenever they wanted.

While deregulation is something that has been occurring within the natural gas industry since the seventies, deregulation in New York is something that took quite a while. The reason for this is that it's a lot more complicated than natural gas. Because of these complications, the restructuring would impact the cost of electricity greatly, as well as the way things work in the power industry in the years to come. So let's take a look at the deregulation in New York to try to understand it a little bit better shall we?

A utility provides a tangible commodity or service that is considered to be something vital to the well being of the general public in the state. These commodities are things like electrical power, water, or natural gas. The utility has the responsibility for producing the commodity, transporting it (in the case of electricity through the power lines they have erected and must maintain), and ultimately, distributing it on the retail level to the individual consumer through a meter and connections to the power grid owned by the utility.

Finally both the state and the federal lawmakers decided that the regulation of electricity was in the favor of the general public. In order to stop the utility companies from charging unfair prices as they had been, the government permitted individual companies to sell services without being challenged within a certain area. Naturally this meant that the company could charge whatever they wanted, and people would have to pay for it if they wanted the lights to be on in their house.

Though there were supposedly safeguards put in place by the Public Service Commission or PSC to make sure that there was no price gouging going on, it didn't seem to work as well as it should have. The PCS barely even said a word about any price gouging, and many people were upset by this. Particularly because they weren't being given a choice in their power provider.

Deregulation in New York was designed to allow the consumer to choose a power company which has a more competitive rate charged for Kilowatt hours (KWh). This offers a potential savings to the individual energy consumer because outside concerns can charge rates less than those set by the original territorial power provider. This also helps theoretically because a consumer is free to choose an electricity provider which produces electricity utilizing a more environmentally friendly renewable generation source like solar or wind compared to the burning of coal which accounts for over a third of all electrical power generated. New York is one of only 19 states which is implementing restructuring to a competitive market.

No matter what happens, there's always going to be a serious problem with the idea of deregulation. The major power company still has to provide the services for the area, and they still have to repair and maintain the power grid. Customers will have to pay a deliver charge on that account because the company does need to do the repairs. Though you might appear to be getting a lower price the deliver charge might actually overpower this.

That particular detail isn't exactly mentioned as these power providers pitch their advertisements. If you are thinking of switching over, you'll need to do some research to see how much money you're going to save in the long run. This is the only way to properly make a decision concerning optimizing deregulation in New York. - 30412

Disneyworld Restaurants

By Amy Nutt

Disneyworld is the place where dreams come true. It is an amusement park that takes visitors around the world exploring different themed areas and even gives people the potential to learn a little bit about cultures across the globe in a fun and exciting way. Besides the rides and neat gift shops, Disneyworld also has a collection of the best tasting food from around the world. For anyone who has been curious to try cuisines that are hard to find anywhere else in America, Disneyworld restaurants are the places to do it.

No matter what kind of food people are in the mood for, Disneyworld and its resorts provide multiple places to go to get great food and awesome atmosphere. For American food Disneyworld has a few options that each have a very elaborate setting. There's the World Premier Food Court which lets diners enjoy a theater type setting while enjoying classic food such as burgers, pizza, fries, and even breakfast food like omelets and pancakes. The Intermission Food Court found in the All-Star Music Resort has the same types of food but fills the area with murals of iconic musical figures. Sports fans will enjoy the End Zone Food Court with its stadium themed setting.

Once you get into the park itself there are still even more options available. The Rainforest Caf is a chain that serves lunch and dinner in a jungle themed area. Enjoy delicious pasta, chicken, and vegetarian meals under the rainforest canopy. Animated animals enhance the atmosphere. Other themed restaurants include Chinese food with Eastern artifacts, African cuisine with a very safari themed atmosphere, and an indoor "garden" with tasty sandwiches. There are over one hundred places to eat at Disneyworld and no two places are alike.

For the adults enjoying a romantic and exciting vacation there are lots of classy restaurants too, complete with alcoholic beverages. From Martha's Vineyard with delicacies such as seafood and imported beer to the Crystal Palace, which serves a buffet and has visits from beloved Disney characters. There is something to suit every mood.

People traveling to Disneyworld won't have time to eat at every location, even if they were to stay an entire summer. Before anyone makes caa travel plans they should look through the very long list of restaurants to see if any stand out ahead of time. It's always fun to explore and try a new place spur of the moment but it would be terrible to go home and find out that there was a restaurant that had exactly what you wanted. Since some of the restaurants are located in certain places such as hotels and resorts, knowing which places a person wants to eat at can also help determine where they'll be staying and which sections of the giant theme park they'll be visiting. The best part about the many Disneyworld restaurants is that even if a person eats somewhere different every day they are vacationing there, there will still be new places to explore the next time they go. - 30412

Incredible New York

By Clive Adams

Even seasoned travelers are awed by the dazzle of New York. You may have seen every iconic structure and street in Hollywood blockbusters, yet the real thing is even more impressive and never ceases to amaze.

New York is a city on the go - a city that never sleeps. Its bright lights and spirit are undimmed by the events of 9/11 or the recession. A young and articulate new president too has reignited hope.

Whether you are an art, history or music buff, or whether you like clubbing and dining, the city has it all. From grand museums, theatres and galleries, to an array of eating places and parks, there's plenty to see, do and experience.

The city has several iconic attractions, starting with the magnificent Statue of Liberty. Some of the other must-see attractions include the Empire State Building, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park and Rockefeller Center. Its museums are such a treasure trove that you can lose yourself in one for over a month and yet not manage to see everything.

Manhattan impresses with its towering skyscrapers, retail stores, theatres, restaurants, pubs and bars. Everything you can possibly think of is here, including the city's main attractions.

One of the best ways to explore New York, especially Manhattan, is on foot. You can feel the city's vibe as you eat a hot dog from a street vendor, watch New Yorkers on their way to work and have a pint at a charming Irish pub. You can also choose to live it up by dining at posh restaurants and attending gallery openings. You will discover that it is possible to survive on a few dollars and also that in some places even a few thousand won't go too far. What you do will colour and shape your experience of this multi-faceted city.

New York is one of the few cities in the world which tourists flock to round the year, even in sweltering summers and chilly winters. The reason is simple - there's always something exciting happening in some part of the city. You will never feel bored or be lost for things to do. In fact, with so much of choice your only problem will be figuring out how to fit in so much in your holiday itinerary.

New York is definitely worth visiting - again and again. - 30412

Yankees and Angels Destined for Battle

By Alex Reese

I hope for a potential American League Playoff Series showdown with the Angels exactly the same way I look forward to becoming 40 and having my wife inform me I need a completely-invasive prostate exam.

To explain, I fear the future more so than Chris Russo.

The Yankees defeated the Angels at their own game on Monday in the Bronx, manufacturing the lead run thanks to the infinitely effective Brett Gardner and some help from Chone Figgins, who was more edgy at 3rd than Tom Brady in the pocket versus the Bills.

The final tally was 5-3, allowing New York to ascend its lead over LA Anaheim of California to 6 games in the race for home field advantage in the postseason. It was a key victory for the Yankees, although the context of the showdown was perhaps even more meaningful.

A playoff series between these two teams would be a massacre.

I understand, there's that entire subject of the division series to be settled. The Yankees will have to survive Detroit and LA and must figure out a way to beat the Red Sox, a team that consistently appears to bury them. Although in a season where the Yankees have secured the nominated status as "The Team To Beat", it's not viable to not think about LA in the long term.

The Angels' lineup is loaded with athletes that scare me. Figgins, Torii Hunter, Kendry Morales, and that's right, Bobby Abreu, comprise the core of a talented roster that rivals the strength of the Yankees' lineup.

Predict a series between these 2 franchises to go the distance or six at worst. Predict a series where a 3-run margin of victory is considered a thrashing.

What I'm attempting to say is, predict a series where you'll need to drink lots of fluids...and I do not mean water. - 30412
